From Charity to Justice: The Dissolution of Catholic Conservatism and the Birth of Progressive Catholicism, 1900-1919 is a new paper by
Zachary R. Calo, Valparaiso University School of Law. Here's the abstract:
This paper, the second chapter in a draft book manuscript, considers the development of early twentieth century American Catholic ethical and economic thought about socialism, capitalism, and the living wage. The chapter traces the movement within Catholic social thought from a focus on the ameliorative and spiritual work of charity towards an embrace of progressive social legislation.
