AHA Book Prize Winners for 2008
The American Historical Association's newsletter for the annual meeting, "New York City and Historians," brings word of the winners of the AHA's book prizes for 2008. These include the winner of the Littleton-Griswold Prize, Rebecca M. McLennan, University of California, Berkeley, for The Crisis of Imprisonment: Protest, Politics, and the Making of the American Penal State, 1776-1941 (Cambridge University Press, 2008); the winner of the J. Russell Major Prize, Amalia D. Kessler, Stanford Law School, for A Revolution in Commerce: The Parisian Merchant Court and the Rise of Commercial Society in Eighteenth-Century France (Yale University Press, 2007); and the winner of the John E. Fagg Prize, Laura Gotkowitz, University of Iowa, for A Revolution for Our Rights: Indigenous Struggles for Land and Justice in Bolivia, 1880-1952 (Duke University Press, 2008).
