SHFG James Madison Prize to Hirota

The Society for History in the Federal Government has announced the winners of its 2013-14 awards. This year's James Madison Prize "for excellence in an article or essay that deals with any aspect of the history of the federal government" went to legal historian Hidetake Hirota for “The Moment of Transition: State Officials, the Federal Government, and the Formation of American Immigration Policy,” Journal of American History, 99:4 (March 2013), pp. 1092–1108. Hirota is Mellon Research Fellow in the Society of Fellows in the Humanities and Lecturer in History and Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race at Columbia University.
