The American Historical Association has announced the winner of the 2014 Littleton-Griswold Prize (given annually to "the best book in any subject on the history of American law and society, broadly defined"):
The Sympathetic State: Disaster Relief and the Origins of the American Welfare State (University of Chicago Press, 2013), by Michele Landis Dauber (Stanford Law School). (We've mentioned the book previously, here.)
