The past several years have seen the emergence of a rich literature on the influence of social movements on legal reform and constitutional change, and the reciprocal impact of law and legal institutions on social movements' development. This conference takes an historical perspective on the relationship between law and social movements, bringing together junior and senior scholars who are producing exciting new work on the twentieth-century. Panels will explore a diverse array of movements—progressive, conservative, religious—and a wide variety of legal contexts from the local to the transnational.
