The 9/11 Commission Report (2004), This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War by Drew Gilpin Faust (2008), and The Ascent of Money: A Financial History of the World by Niall Ferguson (2008) are among the 100 best books of the decade, according to the London Times. Also on their list, a 1995 book reissued during this decade: Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance by Barack Obama (2004).
Salon's shorter list
includes The Looming Tower: Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 by Lawrence Wright, and A PROBLEM FROM HELL: AMERICA AND THE AGE OF GENOCIDE by Samantha Power(2002) makes the Boston Globe's list of best books of the decade.
