Introducing Clara Altman, Facebook Coordinator

The Legal History Blog welcomes Clara Altman. Clara is creating a Legal History Blog Facebook page, which you will hear more about soon. She is a graduate student at Brandeis University, where she works with Michael Willrich. She is interested in American legal history, American empire and colonialism, and gender and sexuality. Her dissertation will take up law and U.S. colonialism in the Philippines between 1898 and 1935. Clara has a law degree from Brooklyn Law School (2007), where she was research assistant to Nan Hunter, and she received her B.A. from Washington University, St. Louis (2004). She has earned many honors along the way, among them the Chris Lerman Prize for Essays on Extraordinary Women, 2009, the Samuel Witte Prize in Literature and the Law, the American Mock Trial Association All-American Attorney Award, and she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brooklyn. Unlike many legal historians, Clara can practice law as well as write about it: she was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2008, and her New York Bar admission is pending. She has worked as a legal intern at The Legal Action Center, New York, and Brooklyn Law School Legal Services, and she spent a year as Assistant Director of Site Operations, Housing and Services, Inc., New York, which serves formerly homeless individuals and people living with HIV/AIDs.

Clara has many great ideas for our Facebook page, and we are lucky to have found her. Welcome to Clara!
