Call for Contributors: Social History of Crime and Punishment

Here's a call for contributors for The Social History of Crime & Punishment, an encyclopedia to be published by SAGE. Those interested should contact Susan Moskowitz at
socialhistory@golsonmedia.com with "a brief summary of [their] academic/publishing credentials in related issues."
We are inviting academic editorial contributors to a new 4-volume reference work on the social history of crime and punishment in the United States.

The Social History of Crime & Punishment: An Encyclopedia will survey the history and philosophy of crime, punishment, and criminal justice institutions in America from colonial times to the present. The reference will cover the whole of the criminal justice system, from crimes, law enforcement and policing, to courts, corrections, and human services. The entries within this work will provide the historical context for students to better understand contemporary criminological debates and the shape of the U.S. system of law and justice. Among other features, this encyclopedia will: explicate philosophical foundations underpinning our system of justice; chart changing patterns in criminal activity and subsequent effects on legal responses; identify major periods in the development of our system of criminal justice; and explore evolving debates and conflicts on how best to address issues of crime and punishment. We are now making assignments due December 15, 2010.***

If you are interested in contributing to this outstanding reference, it is a unique opportunity to contribute to the contemporary literature, defining historical issues for today’s students. Moreover, it can be a notable publication addition to your CV/resume and broaden your publishing credits. SAGE Publications offers an honorarium ranging from SAGE book credits for smaller articles up to a free set of the printed product or access to the online product for contributions totaling 10,000 words or more.***
