Two workshops

The 2016 Symposium on Comparative Early Modern Legal History was held at the Newberry Library in Chicago on April 8. Organized by Jane Ohlmeyer (Trinity College Dublin), Richard Ross (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), and Philip Stern (Duke University), the day-long event brought together historians of Ireland, Scotland, North America, and South Asia. On May 20-21,  the Islamic Legal Studies Program at Harvard Law School will host a workshop on Animals, Law and Religion. The event is co-organized by ILSP Director Kristen Stilt and by Visiting Fellows Febe Armanios and Boğaç Ergene. Workshop participants will explore the treatment of animals from Islamic and comparative religio-legal perspectives. From the paper titles and bios of the presenters, it looks like legal history will be well represented on the program.
