Carbolic Smoke Ball: The View from the History of Medicine

Over on the OUP Blog is a brief posting on the Carbolic Smoke Ball case, prompted by the publication of Asthma: The Biography, by Mark Jackson, a professor of the history of medicine at the University of Exeter. "While Carlill v. Carbolic Smoke Ball Company became a celebrated moment in legal history," Jackson writes, "it also reveals several dimensions of contemporary approaches to respiratory diseases, including asthma."
